The Arts

The heartbeat of our school

The arts are the heartbeat of our school and local community.

The arts provision at Hillcrest has grown from strength to strength since we gained specialist status. We have enjoyed considerable success in art, dance drama and music both inside and outside the classroom. As a team we pride ourselves on the arts provision in place for our young people and see this as an important factor in raising standards of achievement and pupil confidence across the whole curriculum.

The opportunities for our young people to achieve in the arts and beyond are immense - ranging from cross-curricular projects that are infused throughout the curriculum to exciting one-off events such as multimedia, film, break dancing and DJ mixing. Free music instrument lessons are offered by our in-school music specialist. Each year our school productions, shows and art exhibitions continue to delight and amaze audiences, not only in the professionalism of our pupils but also the outstanding quality of the pieces.

At Hillcrest we generate a strong and vibrant arts culture, which promotes enjoyment of many different arts and encourages participation in a wide variety of art activities for Hillcrest and the wider community. We organise and participate in regional school dance festivals, concerts, performances and exhibitions as well as working closely with our feeder schools and community groups. We are also delighted to have been awarded Arts Mark Gold and be a partnership school with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
